China's national standard for battery swapping stations has been updated! It will be implemented starting May 1, 2025

In January this year, China Construction News, authorized, released relevant government information from the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development. It mentioned that the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development recently issued five national standards and one industry standard.

Two of the national standards pertain to the construction and design of electric vehicle charging and swapping stations, which are the "Design Standard for Electric Vehicle Charging Stations" and the "Design Standard for Electric Vehicle Battery Swapping Stations."

The information indicates that the "Design Standard for Electric Vehicle Charging Stations" has been approved as a national standard, with the number GB/T50966-2024, and will be implemented starting from May 1, 2025. The previous national standard "Design Specification for Electric Vehicle Charging Stations" (GB50966-2014) will be simultaneously repealed.

Additionally, the "Design Standard for Electric Vehicle Battery Swap Stations" has the number GB/T51077-2024 and will also be implemented starting from May 1, 2025. The previous national standard "Design Specification for Electric Vehicle Battery Swap Stations" (GB/T51077-2015) will be simultaneously repealed.

In the GB/T50966-2024 Electric Vehicle Charging Station Design Standard, the main technical content of the standard includes the scale and site selection of the charging station, overall layout, charging system, power supply and distribution system, power quality, measurement, monitoring and communication system, civil construction, fire protection, energy conservation and environmental protection.

The technical content of the revisions mentioned in this standard mainly includes:

❶ Revised and improved the site selection, deleted the requirements for the ambient temperature of the charging station;
❷ The scale classification of charging stations has been increased, the layout requirements for charging stations have been revised, and the relevant requirements for fire lanes within road stations have been added;

❸ The design requirements for the charging system have been revised and improved, incorporating reference standards for off-board chargers, revising the range of DC voltage output and the preferred values for DC rated current output of off-board chargers, adding requirements for group control charging equipment, and increasing the reference standards for AC charging piles;
❹ Modifications have been made to the power supply and distribution requirements, removing the power supply voltage requirements, altering the requirements for the low-voltage grounding system, and modifying the requirements for the neutral conductor in low-voltage cables;
❺ The requirements for power quality have been revised and improved, adding the name of the reference standard for voltage deviation at the point of common coupling, and removing the requirements for voltage fluctuations and flicker;
❻ The rated voltage and current selection for the energy metering devices of off-board chargers have been revised, and the requirement for recording the number of charging events has been removed;
❼ The monitoring system requirements have been revised, deleting the structural diagram of the charging station monitoring system;
❽ The civil design requirements have been revised, incorporating reference standards for the safety, applicability, and durability of buildings and structures, adding design requirements for canopies and cable trenches;
❾ The fire protection facility design requirements have been revised, increasing the fire hazard and fire resistance rating for buildings and structures at charging stations, adding requirements for the configuration of fire extinguishers, safety evacuation, and rescue facilities, modifying the requirements for fire water supply, and proposing configuration requirements for fire protection systems in both outdoor and indoor charging stations.

➓ Revised the energy conservation and environmental protection requirements for transformers, and added energy conservation and environmental protection requirements for auxiliary facilities.

In the GB/T51077-2024 Design Standard for Electric Vehicle Battery Swapping Stations, the main technical contents of the standard include site selection for battery swapping stations, station area planning and overall layout, power supply and distribution system, charging system, battery swapping system, power quality, secondary system, system communication, civil construction, fire protection, energy conservation, and environmental protection.

At the same time, the main technical contents included in the revision of this standard are:
❶ Modified the design requirements for site selection;
❷ The scale classification of battery replacement stations has been increased, the layout of battery replacement stations and requirements for fire lanes have been modified, and the requirements for longitudinal gradients of driving lanes have been deleted;

❸ The design requirements for the power supply and distribution system have been modified, the power supply method requirements for the charger cabinet and battery box replacement equipment have been removed, and the design requirements for high-voltage and low-voltage distribution parts, the outer jacket and conduit of power cables, as well as the design requirements for box-type substation and power distribution equipment have been added;
❹ The requirements for cable connections between the charger and the charging rack have been increased;
❺ The selection and layout requirements for the battery replacement equipment at the battery replacement station have been modified;
❻ The functional, configuration, and design requirements for the monitoring system at the battery replacement station have been added, and the security protection requirements for the network communication system have been modified;
❼ The civil installation requirements for the prefabricated battery replacement station have been added;
❽ The fire protection design requirements for the battery replacement station have been modified, and the requirements for the fire hazard and fire resistance rating of the battery replacement station buildings (structures), as well as the setting requirements for safety evacuation and rescue facilities at the battery replacement station have been increased.
